Winter is around the corner, as 2010 is steadily moving on. Winter in South Africa is a rainy and cold season(as winters are in general) which needs to be planned for. Planning? Yes, I meant that. A heater is another good idea and if available at home or at the office, it could provide some respite from the cold weather. Should it be an oil or electric heater? Eskom and the power increase should help in making that decision.
Consider adding an electric blanket to your bed as getting into a cold bed with cold weather around is quite a difficult situation. It is a proper investment that will make the winter less efficient indoors.
I have also noticed that in the winter, we have a number of days and nights that we have no electricity. It most probably the culmination of high usage throughout South Africa that unfortunately leads to certain areas having these issues. So a generator might be a good idea as well.
I might be painting a bleak picture of winter but I have yet to experience a winter where the weather has not lead to power outages and other events.
